I have a new computer, Windows ME, 1 gig Athlon processor, 30 gig hard drive (unpartitioned) and 128 megs of RAM. I can't get scan disc to run, or it's Norton equivalent. It gets as far as the boot sector section and then I get a message saying "can't complete scan due to hard drive activity, or something similar. I've tried shutting down all programs except Explorer and systray, shutting my anti virus software, etc. but scan disc still won't run. In fact the whole system locks up from time to time, won't let me shut down properly, etc. It's running like a dog! Anyone got anything else I can try? I know at this rate I'm building up to a complete system failure. Any advice would be much appreciated.
